New Ecosteryl 250 is operational at BCL Medical Waste23/11/2021

On 18 November 2021, the Ambassador of Belgium, H.E. Didier Vanderhasselt, the Consul General in Cape Town, Mathias Bogaert, and team AWEX led by Wallonia’s Trade Commissioner, Jean-Pierre Muller, had the chance to see the brand new Ecosteryl 250 machine installed in March 2021 at BCL Medical Waste Management (BCL Medical) in Western Cape.

BCL Medical has been active in the containment, transport, disposal, securing and destruction via high temperature of medical waste for over 25 years. It processes 6 tons a day, coming from 2000 private and public clients, with the only licensed incinerator facility in the Western Cape (https://www.bclmedicalwaste.co.za/).

Thanks to the recent acquisition of the Ecosteryl 250, BCL Medical is now able to process an additional 6 tons of waste a day. Whereas pharmaceutical and atomic waste goes to the incinerator, all other medical waste is now treated by the Ecosteryl 250. This very innovative machine, conceived and constructed in Mons (Belgium) is based on an ecological technology. Indeed, it only uses electric energy to decontaminate the waste at a high temperature, thanks to microwave technology. It does not require any water, contrary to the traditional autoclave technology, and does not emit gases, both important factors in a province such as the Western Cape which regularly suffers from serious droughts due to climate change.

At the end of the visit, Brian Scott, the CEO of BCL Medical, expressed its complete satisfaction, not only with the quality of the equipment and its simplicity, but also with the after-sales service provided by Ecosteryl (https://www.ecosteryl.com/en/).
