Strong Belgian participation at AfricaCom 2018 in Cape Town !24/11/2018

Hub.Brussels, the agency in charge of developing export from the Brussels region into the world, participated for the 1st time to the international trade fair AfricaCom, that took place in Cape Town on 13-15 November. AfricaCom is the most important fair in Africa in the sector of telecommunication. It attracts about 14,000 visitors, of which 79% originate from Africa.

A total of 10 Brussels companies were present, 7 of them were grouped on the pavilion of Hub.Brussels. For some of them, it was their first approach of the South African market. Other companies are already present on the market and in sub-Saharan Africa. The purpose of this participation was to evaluate the opportunities of the market in the sectors of interest of the companies,

A representative of the office of AWEX was also present at the fair, to give support and coordinate the various events that were organised.

On Tuesday night, the exhibitors gather at the Belgian restaurant ‘Den Anker’ on the Waterfront for their Belgian Tuesday. It is a networking event organised by the local Belgian Chamber of Commerce, whereby the Belgian community meets in a casual surrounding, with a cold Belgian beer and some snacks. On Wednesday, Hub.Brussels and AWEX had arranged a “Belgian Hour” on the pavilion. The idea was that exhibitors could invite their contacts to share a drink. It was a great success, as we had over 50 people attending.

After the 3 days exhibition, all exhibitors were adamant that they had met with interesting prospects and all were positive about the outcome of this fair. They insisted that the quality of the meeting was superior compared to other fairs they attend throughout the year.

Following this positive experience, Hub.Brussels and AWEX might consider joining forces next year to come back at the fair with a bigger stand and more exhibitors
